You must be able to demonstrate a high level of English language proficiency if you want to work, live, or study in an English-speaking country. The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an English language test designed to help you study, migrate, or work in a country where English is the native language.

Depending on your goals or purpose for moving abroad, you may choose to sit one of the following IELTS tests:

IELTS Academic test
IELTS General Training test

If you plan to study in higher education or seek professional registration in an English-speaking country, you might need to take an IELTS Academic test.

IELTS Academic test assesses your English-language proficiency at an academic level to determine whether you are ready to study at an undergraduate or post graduate level, or work in a professional setting.

IELTS General Training is for people who wish to study, live or work abroad in an English-speaking country. It focuses mainly on assessing a person’s proficiency, confidence and comfort when communicating in English in daily situations that you are likely to encounter in a native English-speaking environment.

IELTS is a four-part test which includes:

Listening
Academic Writing
Academic Reading
Speaking

The Listening, Reading, and Writing parts of the test are completed immediately after each other on the same day and you can take them as a computer test or on paper. In some cases it may be possible to sit the Speaking test on the same day, or up to 7 days before or after your test date.

✔ You can take the test on a computer;

✔ AVO will make sure you register properly for the available dates and get your results quick (up to 5 days but more often 1-2 days);

✔ The computer test allows you access to One Skill Retake (within 60 days).
